Smart Money Concepts

Stop trading like retail. Learn how algorithms, institutions, and "Whales" actually manipulate and move the cryptocurrency markets.

Retail traders use standard support and resistance lines, basic trendlines, and typical indicators like RSI or MACD. The problem? Institutional algorithms are programmed to hunt retail traders' stop losses.

Smart Money Concepts (SMC) is a methodology that attempts to track the footprint of large institutions (Banks, Hedge Funds, Whales) by understanding how they inject liquidity into the market.

The Golden Rule of SMC: If you don't know where the liquidity is, YOU are the liquidity.

1. Liquidity & Stop Hunts

Institutions cannot simply click "Buy" on $500 Million worth of Bitcoin. If they did, the price would skyrocket before their order is fully filled (slippage). To buy a massive amount, they need an equal amount of people selling.

Where do they find sellers? At standard Retail Support lines. Institutions will temporarily push the price below a support line to trigger retail Stop Losses (which are essentially Sell orders). They absorb all these sell orders to fill their massive Buy order. This is called a Stop Hunt or Liquidity Grab.

2. Order Blocks (OB)

An Order Block is the specific candlestick area where institutions accumulated their massive positions before a huge move in the market.

Bullish Order Block

The last down-close (red) candle before a massive explosive upward movement that breaks market structure. When price returns to this block in the future, it often bounces up.

Bearish Order Block

The last up-close (green) candle before a massive aggressive downward drop. This zone acts as institutional resistance when price comes back to it.

3. Fair Value Gaps (FVG) / Imbalances

When institutions enter the market rapidly, they leave behind "gaps" in the price action. An FVG occurs in a 3-candle sequence where the wick of the 1st candle and the wick of the 3rd candle do not overlap, leaving a massive empty space in the 2nd candle.

The market hates imbalance. Over time, price is naturally drawn back to these Fair Value Gaps like a magnet to "fill" the empty space and rebalance the orders before continuing its true trend.

4. Market Structure (BOS & CHoCH)

Understanding the actual trend using SMC involves identifying exactly when the structure breaks.
